Cardi B was expected to perform at the halftime of the next Super Bowl, alongside Maroon 5, their No. 1 hit, Girls Like You. However, she refused to do this, as she doesn’t want to sing with them.
“Cardi B is standing tough and holding out. She doesn’t want to do it unless they roll out the red carpet for her,” said one source close to the rapper.
Besides this, Cardi also asked for a fee up to $1 million, plus a solo spot during the halftime show. As a side note, artists who perform at the Super Bowl are not paid for their performances, but the NFL gives them a “gift in kind”, so they can cover all their expenses.
Other sources claim that her refusal comes as a way of protesting against NFL’s support for Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback who started the entire #TakeAKnee movement, protesting against racial justice.
